Every Starlink plan available in Canada — plainly
Starlink's plan lineup in Canada is confusing on purpose. Here's what each tier actually costs, what it includes, and where a rental slots in cheaper than a subscription.
- Residential Lite — $80/mo · fixed location · slow-lane priority
- Residential — $140/mo · fixed location · standard priority
- Roam 50GB — $65/mo · portable · throttled past 50GB
- Roam Unlimited — $165/mo · portable · what rentals ship on
- Priority — $250+/mo · business, guaranteed throughput
Starlink Mini kits from $45/day · unlimited data · refundable deposit · pickup in St. John's or NL-wide shipping.
Check Rental AvailabilityResidential vs Roam
Residential plans are locked to a service address — Starlink verifies your location and drops service if you move. Roam plans travel with you, which is the only useful tier for RVs, boats, film shoots, and lodges.
The 50GB trap
Roam 50GB looks cheap at $65/mo, but 50GB is nothing for a modern household — a single Netflix binge night can burn 20–30GB. Past the cap Starlink throttles you to 1–5 Mbps, which is worse than tethering a phone. If you're renting equipment we skip that tier entirely and put every kit on Roam Unlimited so it doesn't matter what you stream.
Priority plans (business tier)
Priority and Mobile Priority guarantee throughput at $250–$500+/mo — the network prioritizes your dish over consumer plans during congestion. For a live TV shoot, a marine survey, or a lodge running 20 guests simultaneously, this is what you want. We can spec Priority rentals on request for commercial clients.
When to skip plans entirely
For any use case under six months, a rental is cheaper than the cheapest plan tier when you factor in the $349–$599 hardware cost. See the rent-vs-buy calculator for exact numbers on your trip length.
Frequently asked
Residential Lite at around $80/mo, but it's fixed-location and requires a permanent install. Roam 50GB at $65/mo is the cheapest portable tier — but 50GB gets throttled fast.
Every rental kit we ship comes pre-activated on Roam Unlimited — no throttling, no data cap, no monthly bill for the customer. It's built into the rental rate.
Effectively yes. A week or a month of rental gives you real-world speeds at your actual location before you commit to a $599 dish and a plan.
