Where the coverage stops
Dead zones are all over the province, not just the far corners. Most of the highway west of Whitbourne, and effectively every side highway off it, is commonly reported as patchy or dead for cell service — the Irish Loop, Cape Shore, Bonavista Peninsula, Gros Morne coastal valleys and the Labrador routes especially. Treat that as a planning assumption, not gospel: verify on your own scout with your carrier's SIM in hand.
Power math for a full shoot day
Starlink Mini pulls roughly 25–40W. A 1,000Wh field battery (EcoFlow River/Delta class) carries it through a 20+ hour day with margin; a 150Wh V-mount cine battery gets you approximately 3–4 hours, so plan a rotation if you're running off camera batteries. Vehicle 12V is the cheapest continuous option on a scout.
Rigging and weather
The Mini clamps to grip gear — baby pins, Cardellini clamps, C-stands or a roof rack — with no drilling. Ballast anything freestanding: coastal gusts here will walk a stand across a headland. Coil cable loose in cold; stiff cable at -10°C is how connectors get damaged.
Sky, not signal
It needs open northern sky, not line of sight to a tower. A wooded valley floor or a cliff face to the north is the only thing that reliably kills it. Check the obstruction view in the Starlink app while you're standing on the location.
